Segment and country databases built from World databank I hosted at
GRID-Arendal in Norway. The GRID (Global Resource Info Database) nodes are
the responsibilty of the United Nations Environment Programme.
World databank I (WD1) was compiled by GRID-Geneva and is a
clean, up-to-date version of global boundaries, including new
national boundaries with correct topology for countries emerging
from the former Soviet Union and parts of Eastern Europe. This new
data set is derived from an existing product, the PC World Database
(which ESRI derived from World Boundary Database-II or
WBDb-II), but includes many recent and significant changes in
national boundaries.
City data from World Cities Population Database also hosted at GRID-Arendal.
The World Cities Population Database (WCPD) was produced by
the Birkbeck College of the University of London in 1990 at the
request of the United Nations Environment Programme in Nairobi.
These database may not be for any commerical purpose.
