TECHNICAL INFORMATION ************************************************************************ ********************** * 1.1 - Requirements * ********************** Infectious Ground v1.0 works on the following Pocket PC devices running Windows CE 3.0 : -Compaq IPAQ color -Cassiopeia E-125, EM500, EM505f -Palmax Amigo Note : SH-3 HP Jordana are not supported. A version compatible with PocketPC 2002 devices will be released very soon (November 2001). Memory requirements ------------------- Infectious Ground requires : - from 5MB to 10MB of Storage Memory (depending on the number of missions installed) - 7MB of Program Memory The game can be installed on a storage card. This may however an important impact on mission loading times. ********************** * 1.2 - Installation * ********************** INSTALLATION ------------ To install the game: - run the install.exe program on your PC - choose the destination directory Once the PC installation is complete, you are asked to choose the version you want to install on your PDA: - full version: the whole campaign (21 missions). Requires 10MB - light version: First 4 missions. Requires 5MB Note: if you choose the light version, missions can be added later. Select the version you want, then click [Yes] to install the game on your Pocket. You are then asked if you want to install the game in the default directory: - Click [No] if you want to install the game on a storage card (must be present) - Click [Yes] if you want to install the game in the PDA memory IGPOCKET - MAP INSTALLATION TOOL -------------------------------- Once the PC installation is complete, the "IGPocket" tool will allow you to choose the missions you want to install on your PDA. To run the IGPocket tool, use the shortcut placed on your desktop or in the Start Menu. If your PocketPC is connected to your PC, the IGPocket tool will scan your device and display the mission packs currently installed on your device : - Check the mission packs you want to install on your PDA - Uncheck the mission packs you want to remove from your PDA - Once your selection is complete, click on the [Install] button To re-scan the mission packs installed on your PDA, use the [Scan PDA] button. **************************** * 1.3 - Unlocking the game * **************************** Once the game is installed, you can only play the first 3 missions. To access all missions, you must unlock your game. To unlock the game: 1.Run the game, then press the [register] button. Your PDA Key is displayed. 2.Visit our site www.infectiousground.com and go to the Register page. Once there, type your Purchase Key and your PDA key. Attention, we don't use the "o" letter, only "0" (zero). Make sure that you differentiate between the "1" and the "i". Type your name and email address, then click on [OK]. 3. Your Unlock Key will be sent by email. 4. Once you receive your Unlock Key, run the game, press [register] and type in your Unlock Key (You can use the system keyboard to enter it - don't use small caps and be careful when it comes to the "0" (zero), "i" and "1" keys). Then press [Register Now]. Your game will now be unlocked. Note : If you bought the game in-store, you will find your Purchase Key on a sticker. If you bought it on a website, it will have been sent to you by email. *************************** * 1.4 - License Agreement * *************************** Before installing Infectious Ground you must read and accept the License Agreement (see the 'eula.doc' file). ************************************************************************ * 2. THE GAME ************************************************************************ ******************* * 2.1 - The Story * ******************* 2086 AD: The first Earth colony is founded on New Gaia in the Centauri cluster. The Earth Expansion Phase is officially declared underway on November 15. Humankind has a whole new world to discover - and to own. February 29 2088: A top priority Distress Signal is received at 4:30 Earth Time. At 5:30 ET all communication with New Gaia is lost. The last image received from the colony shows unknown species invading New Gaia. The authorities declare Red Alert on all Earth space outposts. Panic is rife. March 1 2088: The Special Secret Forces are ordered to act. Officer Joe "Job Done" Kamov is called to duty and placed under the direct orders of the Earth Space Office. At 23:59 ET, operation Infectious Ground commences. *************** * 2.2 - Menus * *************** MAIN MENU --------- When the game is run, after the Ludigames screen and the presentation of the story, the Main menu is displayed. Campaign missions : Leads to the Mission Select screen Extra missions : leads to the Extra missions screen Options : leads to the options screen Help : leads the control screens About : leads to the credits screen Exit : exits the game, back to OS Note : If the game is unregistered, a large blue sign is displayed below the Infectious Ground logo. This large blue sign will disappear once the game is unlocked. CAMPAIGN MISSIONS ----------------- This screen gives access to the 21 campaign missions. It has four buttons: - play button : loads the mission - back button : back to the Main Menu - right arrow : display next mission - left arrow : display previous mission If the displayed mission is locked or not installed, the play button is disabled. See the installation chapter or the Campaign missions chapter to learn how to install or unlock a mission. EXTRA MISSIONS -------------- Extra missions can be downloaded from our website at www.infectiousground.com Once installed in the Custom directory, the extra missions are displayed on this menu. This menu has four buttons: - play button : loads the extra mission - back button : back to the Main Menu - right arrow : display next extra mission - left arrow : display previous extra mission If no extra missions are found in the Custom Directory, the play button and the two arrows are disabled. OPTIONS ------- This screen allows the customization of some parameters. It features four sections, in order from top to bottom as follows: Auto center - when stylus is up - when player walks - auto center off Y Axis - normal - inverted Music volume - low - high - off Sound FX volume - low - high - off This screen can also be accessed to from the game. HELP ---- The help screens present the controls. There are 3 buttons on the bottom part : - previous : display the previous help screen. This button is disabled on the first help screen. - menu : back to the main menu - next : display the next help screen. This button is disabled on the last help screen. This screen can also be accessed from the game. ABOUT ----- This screen shows the credits. It has only one button: - Back : back to main menu ****************** * 2.3 - Controls * ****************** KEY CONTROLS : -------------- The game requires simultaneous use of pad & stylus: Use Pad to move & shoot, and stylus to look around & aim. IPAQ Version Walk Mode: Pad Up: move forward Pad down: move backward Pad left: shoot left Pad right: shoot right Center pad: fire rocket Address button: fire rocket Q button: fire rocket Snipe mode: Pad Up: zoom in Pad down: zoom out Center pad: shoot snipe Address button: shoot snipe Q button: shoot snipe CASIO Version Walk Mode: Pad Up: move forward Pad down: move backward Pad left: shoot left Pad right: shoot right Calendar button: fire rocket Menu button: fire rocket Snipe mode: Pad Up: zoom in Pad down: zoom out Calendar button: shoot snipe Menu button: shoot snipe Side wheel up: zoom in Side wheel down: zoom out Side wheel pressed: shoot snipe ONSCREEN Controls: ------------------- RADAR - top left-hand corner The radar shows your position on the map. - yellow lines show your orientation and the part of the map you are facing - red dots show the enemies around your position - tap on the radar to display a full map and mission objectives LIFE status - top right-hand corner This indicator shows the life of the player: when it drops to 0, the mission fails. CAMERA Button - bottom left-hand corner Note : The Remote-control Camera is collected in mission 6. It is not available until then. - Press this button to toggle between Camera mode. - once in camera mode, use the pad to move the camera and stylus to scout around the area - press the button again to exit camera mode ROCKET Button - bottom right-hand corner Rockets are very useful for shooting stronger enemies, but they are limited in number. Note : The Rocket launcher is collected in mission 4. It is not available until then. - You may only fire a rocket at a locked target - Press this button to fire a rocket, or see controls section for keys. - the number of rockets available is displayed on the button SNIPE Button - bottom half, center-right. The snipe gun will allow you to shoot at enemies from a safe distance. Note : The Snipe Gun is collected in mission 7. It is not available until then. - Press this button to toggle between snipe mode. - To zoom in & out and use snipe fire, see controls section. - On the right the number of snipe bullets available is displayed. MACHINE GUN HEAT Indicator - bottom half, center. This indicator shows the heat level of the machine gun. When it reaches maximum, the machine gun stops, to cool down. MENU Button - bottom half, center left. This button leads to the menu inside the game. It features 4 buttons: - resume : back to the game. - options : goes to the option screen. See Menu chapter for more information. - Help : goes to the help screen. See Menu chapter for more information. - Abort mission : aborts the mission, goes back to the Campaign Mission screen. ***************** * 2.4 - Weapons * ***************** The MACHINE GUN: The player starts with the MACHINE GUN, which is collected in mission 1. The Machine gun has unlimited bullets, but when its heat reaches maximum level, it stops to cool down. In the center of the screen is a green square. This is the Lock Zone. - Machine gun can only fire at enemies in this lockzone, within shooting distance. - The message 'Enemy too far' is displayed over the lockzone when enemies are beyond shooting distance. The ROCKET LAUNCHER: Collected in mission 4, the rocket launcher fires powerful rockets at enemies. - Rockets can only be fired at enemies in the lockzone, within shooting distance. The SNIPE GUN: Collected in mission 7, the Snipe gun lets you fire at enemies at a safe distance. - The snipe gun has no lock zone limitation: every visible enemy can be shot at. The REMOTE-CONTROL CAMERA: Collected in mission 6, the remote-control camera allows to scout around the area and see where the enemies are. This camera is not an offensive weapon, but an intelligent one. See Controls section for specific information about how to use these weapons. To pick up a weapon, simply walk over it. ***************** * 2.5 - Enemies * ***************** Several enemy species will be met throughout the 21 missions: ROACH Walking insect. The first enemy you will encounter. Not too dangerous, can easily be shot at with the machine gun. FIREMOTH Flying insect. The second enemy you will encounter. More resilient than the roach. SCORPION Walking insect. Dangerous. Rockets recommended. DRAGONFLY Flying insect. Very dangerous. Not very resilient, but once attacked it will follow you until you, or it, dies. LOCUST Jumping insect. Very dangerous and resilient. Rockets highly recommended. QUEEN Motionless. The Queen is highly dangerous, although she won't shoot at you directly, but she will give birth to more insects! SPIDER We do not have much information about this one, but it looks huge & probably very difficult to kill. MANTIS We do not have much information about this one, but it looks huge & probably very difficult to kill. ***************** * 2.6 - Bonuses * ***************** When enemies are shot, some bonuses may appear: LIFE Bonus - Red, gives 20 Life Points ROCKET Bonus - Purple, gives 2 rockets BULLET Bonus - Yellow, gives 2 snipe bullets To pick up a bonus, simply walk over it. When the maximum number of life points (100), snipe bullets (9) or rockets is reached (9), corresponding bonuses can't be collected. A ">FULL<" indication is then displayed in the bottom left-hand corner of the view area. Note: Rocket Bonus & Bullet Bonus won't appear until Rocket Launcher & Snipe Gun are collected. ************ * 2.7- Kei * ************ Kei appears in every mission, giving indications and presenting mission objectives. Listen to her, as she will give you important information! ************************** * 2.8- Campaign Missions * ************************** The campaign features 21 missions, which must be played in order. For instance mission 4 will be locked until mission 3 is completed. Every mission has one or several objectives to complete. A number is assigned to each mission objective. For instance, the objectives in Mission 1 are: 1. Pick up an object (the machine gun) 2. Go to a place (the blue gate on the colony wall). Signs are placed on the radar maps, corresponding to these objectives. A '1' is displayed on the position of the machine gun to collect, and a '2' is displayed on the blue gate on the colony wall. When several signs are placed on the radar map, for different missions, the color of the current mission objective text matches the color of the signs on the radar map. Example: if the mission objective text is green, then look for the corresponding green signs on the map. ******************* * 2.9- Best Stats * ******************* When you complete a mission, your performance is saved: - Completion time - Number of enemies killed - Number of hits taken Also, a par time is given for every mission on the debriefing screen. You can win extra medals if you meet these objectives: - Map completed within the par time - Map completed with less than 10 hits - Map completed without being hit once ************************************************************************ * 3. The letter "o" is not used, only the figure "0" (zero). 2起 When you enter your Unlock Key, don't use a minus to separate numbers. Blocks of characters are automatically separated. 3起 Some applications such as Wizbar and Gigabar may create conflicts with Infectious Ground.
